No fewer than 20 athletes from the Kano State contingent returning from the recently concluded National Sports Festival in Abeokuta, Ogun State, have died, and many others sustained injuries, following a fatal accident that occurred at the Dakatsalle bridge.

The Chairman of the Kano State Sports Commission, Umar Bala Fagge, confirmed the incident.

He explained that the bus conveying the athletes, which was carrying 30 people, plunged into the bridge.

“As I am speaking to you now, we have counted 19 bodies,” he stated somberly.

In a similarly sorrowful tone, Ado Salisu, a former Vice President of the Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN), revealed that the victims were being transported to Kura General Hospital.

Among the deceased was the son of Salisu Jegu, a sports correspondent at Express Radio.
