The Nigerian Communications Commission has reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring the ICT sector remains the driving force behind the socio-economic and technological development of the country.

The Executive vice Chairman of the Commission Dr Aminu Maida stated this at the commissioning of the state of the art ICT centre at the Usman Danfodiyo University Sokoto .

Represented by the Director Special duties of the Commission, Dr. Shuaibu Suwade said the ICT centre was built by the commission with a view to revolutionize teaching and learning by offering access to digital resources in the University.

The executive vice Chairman who described the project as an ICT park , said Information and Communication Technology centres have become indispensable, in modern universities which drives innovation and efficiency across academic institutions.

He pointed out that the project provide critical infrastructure, tools, and resources that empower students, faculty, and staff to thrive in a digitally connected world.

He explained that the ICT Park is one of six flagship digital infrastructure projects established by the Commission within strategically selected institutions across Nigeria.

He stressed that the centre represents a vital part of the broader renewed hope agenda of the present administration to accelerate ICT innovation, promote research capabilities, and drive the growth of Nigeria’s digital economy.

Responding , the vice Chancellor of the university, Prof. Bashir Garba, represented by Prof. Mahuta of the University expressed his appreciation and commended the FG, noting that the move will promote interdisciplinary projects, connecting experts across institutions and fostering breakthroughs in fields like artificial intelligence and biotechnology.

He added that the centre will prepare students for the digital workforce by imparting essential technological skills equip them with the needed Exposure to programming, data analytics, and digital tools during their studies and equips graduates to meet industry demands.
