Governor Umar Namadi has congratulated the newly elected executives of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Jigawa State Council, following their successful election.
In a statement from his Chief Press Secretary, Hamisu Mohammed Gumel, Governor Namadi praised the peaceful conduct of the elections, which he described as transparent and free from controversy.
The governor acknowledged the pivotal role of journalists in promoting press freedom and professionalism and also commended the union for its continued efforts in advancing the integrity of the press both within the state and across the nation.
Malam Namadi further urged the new NUJ leadership to adhere to the highest ethical standards in journalism, stressing the importance of truthfulness, accountability, and vigilance in their work, while emphasizing the role of journalists as vital watchdogs in society.
He reassured the NUJ executives of his administration’s unwavering support for press freedom, emphasising the need for an environment that allows journalists to operate freely while maintaining responsibility.
The Governor encouraged the new leadership to collaborate with the government for the betterment of the state and wished them success in their tenure, praying for God’s guidance and strength as they embark on their leadership journey in the union.
