Federal Government has been urged to release funds for the payment of outstanding arrears promised to retired workers in order to alleviate their hardship.

The appeal was made by the National President of the FRCN Pensioners Union, Alhaji Ibrahim Ahmad Jikamshi, in response to reports that April pensions were paid without the inclusion of the arrears.

Alhaji Ibrahim Jikamshi noted that the union had received numerous complaints regarding the delay, which he described as unacceptable.

He called for the intervention of the Pension Transitional Arrangement Directorate (PTAD), which, during a meeting in Abuja, assured that steps were being taken to resolve the issue.

Jikamshi also reminded federal authorities of the promise to return senior citizens to the National Health Insurance Scheme to reduce cost of medical expenditure.

Alhaji Ibrahim Jikamshi expressed the hope that relevant committees of the National Assembly would intensify oversight functions to address issues pertaining to welfare of pensioners in the country.
