Kaduna State House of Assembly has passed a bill repealing the Kaduna State Polytechnic Edict of 1989 and enacting a new law to establish Nuhu Bamalli Polytechnic under an updated legal and administrative framework.

The bill, titled “A Law to Repeal the Kaduna State Polytechnic Edict of 1989 (Laws of Kaduna State, 1991) and to Enact the Nuhu Bamalli Polytechnic Law, 2025,” was passed during a plenary session presided over by Speaker Yusuf Dahiru Liman.

Speaking on the significance of the legislation, Yusuf Liman emphasized that the new law will reposition the polytechnic to compete more effectively with other higher institutions across the country.

He noted that the polytechnic’s track record of producing high-calibre graduates underscores the importance of aligning its legal framework with modern academic standards.

Presenting the report on the bill, Chairman of the Joint Committee on Education and Judiciary, Barrister Mahmud Lawal Isma’ila, said the committee conducted a thorough review and consulted key stakeholders before concluding that the existing edict was outdated.

He stated that the enactment of a new law reflects the current realities of Nigeria’s educational system.

According to Isma’ila, the law includes key reforms such as restructuring the office of the Rector to a single five-year term, replacing the previous two-year renewable term.

Similar changes also apply to other senior administrative positions within the polytechnic.

Barrister Emmanuel Kantiyok, the sponsor of the bill, lauded its passage, stating that the law provides a solid legal foundation for the institution’s continued growth and ensures its full recognition under state law.

He maintained that the passage of this law marks a new chapter for Nuhu Bamalli Polytechnic as it aligns itself with contemporary standards in tertiary education governance.

According to him, those carrying Nuhu Bamalli Polytechnic certificate are now backed by the law.
