Leader of the Resurrection Assembly Church in Katsina, Reverend Nelson Onyekachukwu, has urged Nigerian leaders and citizens to reconcile with God in order for the country to attain peace and economic prosperity.

Speaking to Radio Nigeria on the significance of Easter, the cleric observed that countries only attain peace and sustainable development through piety.

He called on Christian faithful to imbibe the lessons in the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ in their lives, noting that the central theme of Easter is ‘sacrifice’ “which is an essential ingredient in nation building”.

“According to the Book of Matthew, the Holy Spirit led Jesus Christ into the wilderness, he spent forty days praying and fasting, seeking the face of God, that is what we Christians also practice during the period.

“The period of Lent is the period we use to amend our ways, it is a time we use to seek the face of God over certain issues in our personal lives and also for our nation”, Onyekachukwu noted.

He described the security and economic challenges being faced by Nigerians as a manifestation of God’s wrath, and admonished the country’s leaders and citizens alike to reconcile with God.

“Both the Christian and Muslim leaders, we must fear God, the fear of God has departed from us, that is the reason why we are going through a lot of difficulties in Nigeria today.

“Nobody is safe, our roads are not safe, travelling by air is not safe, travelling by rail is not safe, even in your house you are not safe, all because we have disappointed God.

“I therefore urge us all, both Muslims and Christians, let us come back to God, I also urge our leaders from the President to the Councilor, they should all come back to God because only He can set our country back on track”, the Christian cleric stressed.

He noted that a country can only attain peace and prosperity when citizens act with the fear of God and in line with His commandments.
