Director General of the National Water Resources Institute Kaduna Professor Emmanuel Adanu says the negative impact of melting glaciers are real and therefore called on experts to intensity campaigns on preventative measures against global warming.

Professor Emmanuel Adanu who was speaking at the World Water Day celebration organized by the Institute in Kaduna maintained that a huge percentage of global warming occurs due to human activities which can be reduce with proper enlightenment programs and government policies.

He said the Glaciers are melting rapidly in countries where they located causing disruption in water flows and affecting millions of people through floods, droughts, and rising sea levels on a global scale.

Professor, Emmanuel Adanu Maintained that Mitigating climate change and adapting to the loss of glaciers is essential to protect communities and the ecosystems.

In a presentation on the theme, Changing Climate and Melting Glaciers, Professor Donatus Adie of Ahmadu Bello University Zaria outlined actions that promote global warming to include, Industrial Revolution, Deforestation, Green House gas emissions among other human activities.

He emphasized the bed for government at all levels to enforce environmental laws and development policies that protect the environment so as to prevent escalation of man made and natural disasters.

Earlier, representative of the National Environmental Standards and Regulations Enforcement Agency NESREA Mrs. Catherine Manghai attributed the erratic rainfall and the intense hot weather to Climate Change which is majorly enhanced by human activities.

World Water Day 2025 focuses on glacier preservation, emphasizing the need for global action to manage meltwater sustainably and reduce emissions, securing vital water resources for the future.
