In response to public outcry over the high price of bread despite a reduction in the price of flour, the Kano State Public Complaint and Anti Corruption Commission (PCACC) has reached an agreement with the Master Bakers and Caterers Association of Nigeria (MBCAN) to increase the quantity and quality of their products.

According to a communique issued by PCACC, the agreement was reached after a meeting between the two parties, represented by Muhyi Magaji from PCACC and Jibril Hamza from MBCAN. The meeting aimed to resolve the public outcry over the price of bread, which has remained high despite a reduction in the price of flour.

During the meeting, MBCAN insisted that reducing the price of bread would not be possible due to the high prices of other ingredients used in production.

However, the association agreed to increase the size and quality of bread to reflect the reduction in the price of flour.

The communique noted that the price of flour had been reduced by N2,000 per bag, from N60,000 to N58,000, thanks to the intervention of the Kano state government through PCACC.

However, the meeting acknowledged that this reduction was not enough to warrant a decrease in the price of bread.

As part of the agreement, PCACC promised to meet with flour dealers to ensure strict compliance with the price reduction. The communique was signed by both PCACC and MBCAN, marking a significant step towards addressing the concerns of the public.

PCACC’s efforts to address the issue demonstrate the agency’s commitment to protecting the rights of consumers and promoting fairness in business practices.
