Jigawa State House of Assembly has constituted an 11-member committee to oversee the amendment of the State and Local Government Contributory Pension Scheme Law 2024.

The Majority Leader of the House, Alhaji Lawan Muhammad Dansure, has been appointed as the Chairman of the committee, while Barrister Isyaku Ado will serve as the Secretary.

The request for the amendment was conveyed in a letter from Governor Umar Namadi, which was received and read by the Speaker, Alhaji Haruna Aliyu Dangyatin, during a plenary session.

Moving a motion to seek support for the amendment of the law, Majority Leader Alhaji Lawan Muhammad Dansure stated that the amendment would enable the government to overcome delays in the payment of pensions to retired workers.

He emphasized that it has been a tradition in Jigawa State to pay civil servants their gratuities and pensions within 3 to 4 months of disengagement from service.

The Member representing Fagam constituency Alhaji YahayaZakari Kwarko and member representing Gwaram constituency, Alhaji Ado Yakubu Zandam stressed the need to address the challenges faced by civil servants in accessing their retirement benefits after completing service years.

Meanwhile, Jigawa state house of assembly is to amend the Law to make provision for the payment of social security allowance to the disabled persons in the state.
