Traders at the Goni-Gora Market in Chikun Local Government Area of Kaduna State have staged a peaceful protest, appealing to Governor Uba Sani to come to their aid.

The traders, in large numbers, held placards with inscriptions such as “We don’t want demolition at Goni-Gora Market,” “Save us, Governor Uba Sani,” and “Don’t kill the economy of Goni-Gora Market,” among others.

 

 

 

Chairman of the Goni-gora market association, Mr. Martins Enebele and Secretary Olatunji Oluwasegun appealed to governor Uba Sani to prevail on the matter, saying no concrete reason was giving for the demolition.

They called on the governor to investigate the matter and bring about a favourable solution for the common man.

 

 

In his comment, the Sarki Kasuwa Goni-gora, Mr. Jonah Umaru alleged that Kaduna state market board earlier last week told them that it was expansion of the market, not demolition and appeal to them to reverse their decision in order to maintain the existing peace in the area.

In an interview, a window, Azuka Amaka explained that the shop she owns at Goni-gora market is her only source of livelihood where she feeds her children from.

Also speaking, Mrs Salomi Hosea and Naomi Micah noted that there are some shops yet to be occupied at the Goni-gora market due to lack of finance occasion by the economy hardship been faced.

According to them, they will not be able to afford another shop if their current shops are been demolished, as the new one will be on a high side.

On his part, Comrade Sule Adams said the market has improved economy and livelihood of many people in the area.

He expressed concern that the demolition of the market may likely bring about violence in the area.

 

 

 

Efforts to reach the Kaduna State market board for their comment on the demolition proof abortive.

Radio Nigeria Correspondent reports that the officials were not on ground to carry out the demolition as earlier been communicated to the traders.
