The Kebbi State Government, has concluded arrangements to conduct the second mass Wedding for three hundred couples by end of February this year.

Briefing newsmen Sunday evening, Chairman of the Main Committee and former state Deputy Governor Suleiman Muhammad Argungu, stated that the success of last year’s mass wedding, organized by the NANAS Foundation of the governor’s wife, Hajiya Nafisa, encouraged the government to sponsor another edition this year.

According to the Chairman, 600 brides and grooms from less privileged backgrounds irrespective of religion, ethnicity and political bias would be wedded under the government’s arrangement.

He said, screening committees have been established in all the 21 local government areas to select eligible couples based on set criteria such as the grooms must have a source of income and accommodation for their brides.

Suleman Argungu, stated that all couples would undergo mandatory medical screening, including Genotype and HIV tests while prospective brides would be tested to ensure they are pregnancy free.

Each couple will receive N180,000 as dowry, totaling N54 million, along with furniture, mattresses, beddings and household utensils.
