A delegation of Liberian parliamentarian and environmentalists has sought the support and collaboration of the Nigerian legislature in tackling the effects of climate change, which continues to impact many countries globally.

The delegation, led by Hon. Ernest Manseah, held separate discussions with the Senate and House of Representatives Committees on Ecology and Climate Change on Thursday at the National Assembly in Abuja.

Hon Manseah Snr in his remarks during the session with the Senate Committee on Ecology and Climate Change chaired by Senator Seriake Dickson, believed that Nigeria being a country that is far ahead of others on mitigation against climate change , is seen as a place to visit and learn .

” We have come to learn from you Distinguished members of this committee on how Nigeria as a country , has been mitigating the effects of climate change .

We are here to engage with you on that and take home , very remarkable measures being taken here to confront the environmental challenges caused by climate change .”

He explained that back In Liberia, they were thinking of Climate Fund , but beyond the fund , we want to tap into Nigeria’s ways of tackling the natural challenges.

Earlier, in their separate remarks, the Chairman of the Committee, Senator Dickson, stated that climate change is a major challenge that requires all African countries to collaborate in finding effective solutions.

He noted that in Nigeria, an effective approach to addressing climate change challenges includes the existing law with relevant provisions for measures and actions aimed at mitigating its effects.

” The Act or law , is the first in Africa which makes Nigeria , one of the leading countries in the world addressing the issues of climate change but nonetheless, still needs collaboration with other countries for more effective ways of confronting challenges of climate change .

Dickson further expressed appreciation on their visit and wishing to visit Liberia for consolidation of the collaboration

Other members of the Committee include the Senate Minority Whip , Senator Osita Ngwu, Senator Adetokunbo Abiru and Victor Umeh who also commended the Liberian delegation for the visit and said it required expansion in scope through inclusion of other African Countries.
