Kwara state ministry of Health says  it has  screened over one hundred and two  thousand (102,452 )residents  across the 16 local government areas of the state for hypertension and diabetes free between October and December last year.

The state commissioner for Health, Dr. Amina El-Imam,made the disclosure while briefing newsmen on the activities of the ministry in Ilorin.

She said that free refill drugs were also provided to all individuals with known cases of hypertension and diabetes during the exercise.

The commissioner said that healthcare workers in primary, secondary and tertiary healthcare facilities were re-trained on the diagnosis and management of hypertension and diabetes.

Dr. El-Imam also said that free breast and cervical cancer screening programme was carried out across the 16 local government areas of the state during the period.

She explained that 1,151 and 807 women were screened for breast and cervical cancers respectively, adding that all diagnosed cases were linked to care at the  state University teaching hospital (KWASUTH”.

The commissioner noted that improvement in the quality of care of TB patients had resulted in the achievement of a 94% treatment success rate within the reporting period 2024.

She maintained that a free mass administration of deworming medicines was carried out on over 750,000 school aged children in public and private schools and communities across the state.END
