Nigeria and Benin Republic, have concluded arrangements to establish a joint one-stop border post at the Segbena border in Benin Republic with the aim of strengthening trade, commerce, and social interaction between the two countries.

The arrangement was made at the final meeting between Nigeria’s representative, the Comptroller Nigeria Customs Service, Kebbi Area Command, Mr. Ehenacho Ernest Ojike, and the representative of Benin Republic at Segbena, Mr. Aroune Darmane, Head of Customs at Sebgana Border Benin Republic.

The meeting was a follow up to the first meeting held on the 22nd of last Month, aimed at streamlining activities to enhance the socio-economic activities between the two countries.

Speaking to newsmen, Comptroller of the Nigeria Customs Service, Kebbi Area Command, Mr. Ehenacho Ernest Ojike, said officials from the two countries have come together again to fine-tune operational modalities for effective border functioning that will benefit the two countries.

Comptroller Ernest Ojike, said, infrastructure, security, and logistics which are of importance are also part of the discussion at the meeting.

He said, at the end of the meeting, both countries agreed to establish an internationally recognized one-stop border post that will enhance the socio economic activities of the two countries.

“Once the long-awaited dream of establishing this border post is actualized, socio-economic challenges in this parts of the countries will become a forgotten narrative”.

During the first meeting with the Nigeria Minister of Foreign Affairs, Comptroller General of the Nigeria Customs Service, Kebbi State Governor and their counterparts from the Benin Republic, Segbena/Tsamiya border post was officially declared open for international business activities by the two countries.
