Nigerian Union of Teachers NUT has commended Jigawa state government for recruiting over 6,143 permanent and temporary teachers, describing the effort as unprecedented in the history of the state.
The Chairman, NUT Jigawa state chapter Comrade Abdulkadir Yunusa stated this to Newsmen after the presentation of the offer of employment to 3,143 permanent teachers recruited by the state government.
He explained that, over the years teachers gap has been widening in the state without serious effort to tackle it.
According to him, the current mass recruitment by the current led administration has rekindle their hope of having teachers in every school and every class.
” The 3,143 had served as temporary teachers for two years and they are now observed to permanent, at the same time a portal was open for recruiting 3,000 temporary teachers and so far over 10,000 were said to have applied,
He said this development is encouraging and will help in addressing so many challenges confronting the state education sector.
Comrade Yunusa pointed out that, NUT is hoping that, before the end of Governor Namadi’s administration, the acute shortage of teachers in schools will become history.
In an interview with newsmen, the state Head of Civil Service, Alhaji Muhammad Dagacire said the mass recruitment which included 3,143 permanent teachers, 1,005 permanent health workers, including doctors and junior staff and 1,440 temporary agricultural extension workers will help in enhancing public service delivery in the state.
“Not only enhancing public service delivery the mass recruitment will also save the state contributory pension scheme, provide more jobs opportunities by increasing money circulation in the state”.
The Head of Service therefore expressed appreciation to Governor Namadi for his concern to the civil servants progress and Jigawa state at large.
