Police say security agencies in Kano state have discovered plans by some troublemakers to cause havoc in important locations such as the Kano State House of Assembly and other government buildings.

During a media briefing at the police headquarters in Kano, Commissioner of Police Mohammad Usaini Gumel shared this information.

He stated that the joint security agencies will conduct house-to-house searches on anyone who believes they are above the law.

CP Mohammed Usaini Gumel emphasized that the security agencies are committed to upholding the law and will not hesitate to maintain peace and protect the lives and property of citizens.

CP Mohammed Usaini Gumel appealed to the general public to continue offering the necessary support to the police to ensure peace.

Kano state has been at the center of discussion over the past week due to the recent dissolution of the Gaya Emirate by the state government.

The amended law, passed by the NNPP-controlled House of Assembly, reversed the previous law enacted by the former Governor Abdullahi Ganduje in 2020, which created additional emirates and dethroned the 14th Emir of Kano, Muhammadu Sanusi II.

Last Thursday, May 23, 2024, Governor Abba Yusuf reinstated the ousted Alhaji Muhammed Lamido Sanusi as the new Emir of Kano, directing all the affected Emirs to vacate all the palaces and submit to the Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs of all government belongings in their possession within 48 hours.

The move did not go down well with supporters of Ado Bayero, the ousted emir of Kano, who was affected by the amended law, erupting in a series of protests.
