President of the National Union of Textile, Garment and Tailoring Workers of Nigeria Comrade Peters Godoun want the present administration to at all times consider the plight of the masses and indeed workers in all government policies and programmes.

Comrade Peters Godoun made this known at a press briefing to mark this year’s worker’s day, with the theme the “people first”.

Comrade Peters Godoun who just assumed office as the new President of the Union insisted that government has a duty to come up with relief packages that would help to cushion whatever challenges the people are going through.

He alluded to the fact that the county was going through tough times, but insisted that dialogue was needed to resolve issues concerning the welfare of workers and by extension the Nigerian people.

The new President of the National Union of Textile, Garment and Tailoring Workers of Nigeria further opined that a conducive environment must be created for employers and employees to meet and resolve disputes.

On the issue of the minimum wage, the President said proposal have been forwarded to the tripartite committee for consideration and was therefore optimistic that going by dialogue, a reasonable figure would be approved for workers in the country.

As for revival of the Textile Industries, Comrade Peters Godouns expressed delight that one of the present administration’s cardinal point remained the resuscitation of ailing industries including textile mills in the country.

He was of the opinion that if government take proactive measures to resuscitate ailing industries including textile mills, millions of jobs would be created in the country.
