Kano State Government has distributed food items and cows to persons living with disabilities (PLWDs), and thirteen rehabilitation centres for mentally retarded persons in the state.

Speaking during the distribution, the state governor, Engineer Abba Kabir Yusuf, represented by Secretary to the State Government, Dr Abdullahi Baffa-Bichi, explained that, the gesture was an annual event to host PLWDs, to ensure that they don’t feel isolated by celebrating sallah in a joyous mood.

The food items include rice, vegetable oil, cow, ram and also cash to enable them buy firewood and ingredients.

The beneficiaries include Emir of the Deaf, Emir of the Blind, Emir of the physically-challenged and Emir of the Lepers ,with their chiefs from the five emirates Kano, Bichi, Karaye, Rano and Gaya.

Others are Chairmen and Secretaries association of Albino, blind and spinal cord association among others.

According to him, the rehabilitation centres for mentally retarded persons include Dawakin Kudu, Gaya, Dorayi, two in Bichi, Danbatta, Minjibir, Wudil, Sumaila, Tudun Wada, Rano, Karaye and Shahuci.

“The centres under SEMA were designed to provide clinical services,psychological support and skill acquisition training for the disabled,” Kabir-Yusuf said.

In his remarks, the Executive Secretary Kano State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA), Alhaji Isyaku Abdullahi-Kubarachi, commended Governor Kabir-Yusuf for the kind gesture.

He advised residents in the state to desist from indiscriminate dumping of refuse on water ways to avert flooding.

Speaking on behalf of the beneficiaries, Sarkin Makafi (Emir of the Blind), Alhaji Ado Halilu, commended the state government for the kind gesture, and promised to use the items judiciously.
