The General Officer Commanding 8 Division Nigerian Army Sokoto, Major general Godwin Mutkut has
urged officers and men to exhibit the highest level of discipline and professional competence at all times.

The GOC stated this at the end of a three day Inter-brigade Corporal and below Competition 2023, hosted by the 8 Division Garrison held in Sokoto State.

Major General Godwin Mutkut. who was represented by Commander 58 signal Brigadier General Clement Iyere said the objective of the Competition is to among other things; enhance troops’ physical endurance, improve leadership traits, organizational ability, promote esprit-de-corps and the use of initiative in overcoming challenges.

He explained that the participants will compete in Weapon Handling which will feature Stripping and Assembling of riffles as well as shooting.

The GOC said the competition will also feature Physical Fitness that involves two point four kilometer race , Obstacle Crossing, Map Reading, Drill and Combat Swimming.

Major general Mutkut noted that the move was aimed at ensuring that troops are well trained in line with the overall vision of the Chief of Army Staff of ensuring Professional Nigerian Army formations that are Ready to Accomplish Assigned Missions within a Joint Environment in Defense of Nigeria.

He reminded them of the enormous responsibilities and critical role expected of them especially at a time when the Nigerian Army is engaged in numerous operations of confronting security challenges across the country .

He ordered the participants to take back to their formations and units the experience they acquired for the overall benefit of the Nigerian Army at large.

The GOC commended the organizers of the competition especially the Commander of the host formation, the 8 Division Garrison for providing an enabling environment for the conduct of the competition.
