
National Drugs Law Enforcement Agency NDLEA says it has seized over 999kg of narcotic drugs and psychotropic substances in Jigawa state.
The Jigawa State commandant, Alhaji Mu’azu Aliyu Dan Musa disclosed this during a press briefing on the occasion of International day against drugs abuse and illicit trafficking held at the command’s headquarters Dutse, the Jigawa state capital.
He explained that, 999.335kg of narcotic drugs and psychotropic substance were siezed within one year.
According to him, four hundred and twenty two suspects were arrested within the period under review.
Alhaji Mu’azu Aliyu Dan Musa further explained that out of the number , 409 were males while 13 suspects are females.
The Commandant pointed out that, the command also convicted 94, counselled 186 as well as rehabilitated 15 during the period under review.
He said 4 clients are presently undergoing rehabilitation in their Centre.
Dan Musa noted that the aim of this year’s campaign is to combat stigma and discrimination by promoting attitudes that are respectful.
He said the aim also include empowerment of young people and communities to prevent drug addiction.
The Commandant commended the Chairman of NDLEA Brigadier General Buba Marwa(Rtd) for his zero tolerance to drug abuse and illicit trafficking across the country.
