The United Nations International Children’s Emergency Fund (UNICEF) has selected Taura, Guri and Jahun local government areas as another set for the Open Defecation Free Programme in Jigawa state.

Speaking during an advocacy visit to the Emir of Ringim, the State Commissioner for water resources, Alhaji Ibrahim Garba Hannu Giwa noted with appreciation the role of traditional rulers for the success of the programme in 11 local government areas of the state whom were declared Open Defecation Free.

Garba Hannu Giwa therefore solicited support of the Emir towrds achieving the set objectives in Taura local government being one of the 3 selected areas for the programme.

Responding, the Emir of Ringim Dr Sayyadi Muhmud assured that the Emirate council would direct District village and ward heads in the effected local governments mobilize of people towards success of the programme.

In a remark, the chairman of Taura local government, Alhaji Baffa Yahaya pledged to provide necessary logistics with a view to ensuring that the area is Free from Open Defecation before the end of this month.

The advocacy team include the permanent secretary, state ministry for water resources Engineer Gambo S Malam and stakeholders from UNICEF.
