Governor Badaru Abubukar of Jigawa State has presented the staff of office to Alhaji Hameem Muhammad Sunusi II, as the 22nd Emir of Dutse.

The Emir was appointed following the death of his father, Dr Nuhu Muhammad Sunusi.

Speaking after presenting the staff of office to the Emir, Badaru said the state government appreciated the contributions rendered by the late emir and traditional leaders in promoting peace and stability in the state.

He urged the new Emir and the entire traditional institution in the state to continue to assist the government in providing security of lives and property.

Badaru Abubakar further urged the Emir to remain a father to all his subjects, without discrimination and to accord priority attention to the development of Dutse emirate and state in general.

In his acceptance speech, the new Sunusi, who promised to build from where his late father stopped, particularly in the area of security and Zakkat collection and distribution, also promised to be just and fair to all people in the emirate.

He commended Governor Badaru for finding him worthy to occupy the throne after the death of his father.

Hameem Sunusi also urged those who contested for the throne with him to join hands with him to move the emirate and the state to the next level.

Also speaking, His Eminence, the Sultan of Sokoto, Abubakar Sa’ad II, urged the new emir to follow the footprint of his late father by serving all his subjects well.

Sa’ad, who promised to guide the emir to the right path, commended the state government and the gathering.

Sultan also called on Nigerians to be patient and prayerful to overcome the challenges facing the country.
