Journalists in the country have been advised to enhance reports towards the success of the 2023 population and housing census in the country.

The Federal Commissioner of the National Population Commission in charge of Sokoto state , Alhaji Chiso Abdullahi Dattijo gave the advice at a one day state level capacity building workshop organized for Journalists in the state.

Chiso Abdullahi Dattijo stressed that the contributions of Journalists is key to achieving acceptable population and housing census through proactive coverage and public enlightenment.

The federal commissioner noted that despite its high ranking position on the global demography, Nigeria’s population and housing census had been conducted irregularly contrary to the United Nation’s ten years recommended interval.

He said considering the huge financial requirements for conducting census, Nigeria cannot afford to fail, adding that journalists must use all their platforms

to educate Nigerians on the importance of the exercise with a view to achieving the desired objective.

Alhaji Abdullahi Datijjo explained that the upcoming census would be conducted digitally, adding that all data shall be collated online nationwide.

Radio Nigeria in Sokoto report that the workshop was designed to educate journalists on the rudiments of conducting census and to identified their important roles for effective service delivery.

In a paper presentation , Head of Public Affairs of the Commission, Hajiya Safiya Tahir Abdullahi disclosed that Enumeration Areas Demarcations had been updated across the country.

She added that quality assurance components were used to ensure uniformity, standardization and full compliance with the enumeration area demarcation methodology
