National Board for Technical Education (NBTE) has reviewed and introduced new curricular of over 60 courses offered in Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) institutions in the country.
This is to provide general guide to institutions in determining the body of knowledge and skills required for the award of certificates to enable holders of National and Higher National Diplomas effectively perform their responsibilities in their chosen fields of calling.
At the public presentation of the curricula in Abuja, Minister of Education, Mallam Adamu Adamu said the development was important to ensure that both students and teachers keep up with global best practices in technical and vocational education.
The new and reviewed 60 curricula, which was developed within two years is made up of National Occupational Standards (NOS) and Open, Distance and Flexible e-Learning (ODFEL) courseware.
The Minister who was represented by the Director Polytechnic Education, Dr Ejeh Usman, said Federal Ministry of Education would continue to provide enabling environment for technological advancement in the country.
‘’It behoves on the end users of these curricula, NOS and Courseware to ensure that the objective for which they are intended are achieved’’.
‘’The existing synergy between the industry and TVET sector which gave birth to these curricula must be deepened for effective implementation. I will therefore appeal to our captains of industry to sustain the collaboration with TVET institutions around their operational base and the NBTE’’ He stated
The Executive Secretary of the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE) Prof Idris Bugaje pointed out that all the curricula were industry-driven; developed with the full participation of the Nigerian industries to address the employability problem that are often encountered by graduates of polytechnics.
‘’It is also to provides a uniform standards and guide for the teaching staff in the training of potential diplomates.
He added that most of the curricula were on emerging fields such as ND/HND Petroleum and Gas Processing Engineering, HND Transport Planning & Management, Water Sanitation and Hygiene.
