Federal government says it will continue to improve access to affordable and quality health care service delivery through budgetary provision and support by International health partners across the country.

Minister of State for Health, Chief Joseph Ekumankama made the promise during the inauguration of some projects completed at the National Obstetrics Fistula Centre, Abakaliki

The National Obstetrics Fistula Centre, NOFIC Abakaliki became the first national health facility for the repair of fistula caused by obstructed labour amongst women in 2011.

To further enhance its operational capacity, the Hospital embarked on the construction of a molecular lab complex, oncology health records building, Oxygen plant, Maternity Complex and a dual carriageway into the facility.

The Minister of State for Health, Chief Joseph Ekumankama described the projects as impactful as they were in line with the Universal Health Coverage policy of President Muhammadu Buhari’s administration.

On his part, the Governor of Ebonyi State, David Umahi commended the initiative and promised his administration would establish Oxygen Plant, Molecular Lab and a Teaching Hospital before he leaves office.

The Medical Director of NOFIC, Dr Johnson Obuna said they embarked on the project to have a Hospital equipped to standard for women’s health and appealed to the state government for assistance.

Dr Obuna said the ambulance, if provided, would help them to provide more robust fistula repair and rehabilitation services to women with such conditions across the South East, South South and North Central zones of the country.
