The Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN has called on traders and business community in kano to expedite action in ensuring they meet the deadline of 31st January for changing their old naira notes with the new redesigned Naira Notes.

The Director Currency Operations of the Bank Mr A.B Ahmad made the call during a sensitization campaign for Traders at Dawanau International Grain Market Kano.

Represented by Shamsuddeen Zubair said the redesign of the Naira note was aimed at addressing corruption, inflation as well as boosting the nations economy.

He said the E-Naira system would ease business and money transaction among traders and the community , hence the general populace should ensure they deposit their old currencies at their banks before the deadline of 31st of January 2023 .

The Director Currency operations cautioned traders and the general populace to beware of fraudsters, saying some unpatriotic citizens already began faking the redesigned New Naira Note.

” the redesigned Naira Note has security measure that will make hard for fraudsters to fake it, so we should be on the watch out “

In a remark the controller CBN Kano office Umar Ibrahim Biu urged the traders to open an E-wallet Account , with the aim of easing money transaction as well as easing their day to day businesses.

He Appealed to the traders and business community to embrace the E-Naira mode of transaction ,adding that it is the safest way of money transaction.

Earlier the Deputy Chairman of Dawanau International Grains Market Alhaji Baba Umar Wawo said one of the major challenge was lack of awareness from the part of local farmers ,especially in the aspect of opening a bank account.

He noted that lack of adequate telecommunication services in remote areas was among their major challenge.

During the sensitization traders were trained on how open E -wallet accounts , and questions were answered by CBN officials.
