Kwara State Government has commenced a sensitization campaign to enlighten residents on the benefits of exclusive breastfeeding to promote nutrition in the state.
Speaking on the side-lines of the Food and Nutrition Awareness Campaign in Ilorin , the state Commissioner for Communications , Mr. Sadiq Buhari said good nutrition is important for a healthy and balanced life.
He advised mothers to ensure adequate care of their babies and follow health givers instructions on exclusive breastfeeding.
Mr Buhari explained that the state government has equipped health facilities and Primary Health Care Centres to guarantee maternal and newborn health.
The Commissioner also urged the residents to start home garden to mitigate hunger and prevent malnutrition.
In her remark the sensitization campaign team leader, Dr. Fatimah Amuda, said the campaign centred on the practice and benefits of early initiation and exclusive breastfeeding, and benefits of home garden.
