The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) in collaboration with Kano State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA) , distributed relief materials to 406 vulnerable persons and flood victims in Kiru Local Government Area of the state.

The Director General NEMA, Alhaji Mustapha Ahmed-Habib, made the disclosure while distributing the relief materials.

Ahmed-Habib, represented by NEMA Coordinator Kano Territorial Office, Dr Nurudeen Abdullahi, said the relief items were meant to bring succour to the victims.

According to him, the donation was part of the Federal government efforts, to support the victims of disasters across the country.

“The items include Maize, rice, millet, guinea corn, noodles, rice, beans,tomato paste, seasoning cubes, vegetable oil, cement, nails, roofing sheets and ceiling board”

The DG urged the general public, to adhere to early warning rainfall predicted by the Nigeria Metrological Agency (NiMet) to mitigate environmental hazards.

On his part, the Executive Governor of Kano State, Dr Abdullahi Ganduje, said 306 victims of flood and 100 vulnerable persons benefitted out of the 7,415 bags of grains approved by President Muhammadu Buhari, from the National Strategic Reserve Stock to be distributed in Kano.

Dr Ganduje, who was represented by the Executive Secretary SEMA, Dr Saleh Aliyu Jili, commended President Buhari and the All Progressive Congress (APC) Presidential aspirant, Dr Bola Ahmed Tinubu, for donating relief materials to flood victims in the state.

He advised members of the public, especially women using firewood, cooking gas and charcoal, to handle fire with care and cultivate the habit of switching off electrical appliances, when not in use, to avoid inferno during harmattan.

The governor, called on residents to desist from indicriminate dumping of refuse, and clear their drainages to avert flooding.

In his remarks, the Chairman Kiru Local Government, Alhaji Muntari Isyaku,commended NEMA and Kano State government for the kind gesture.

Speaking on behalf of the beneficiaries,Sani Lawal-Kiru, commended the agency for the donation and promised to use the items judiciously.
