The National President, Nigeria Union of Teachers NUT Mr. Titus Amba has appealed for maximum cooperation among teachers in the efforts to address challenges in the teaching profession and the educational system in Nigeria.

The National President who was speaking to newsmen after an event in honour in Kaduna alleged that the educational system was at the verge of collapsing and requires collective efforts for it’s revival.

“Teachers don’t even have a seat to seat down in the classroom talk less of the students. I challenge anyone to take a walk to our schools and see things by themselves except a few previlledged schools. …… Education is just talk about through lips service not practically- No political will”

Mr. Titus Amba also noted that the new policy of teaching in mother tongue introduced by the federal government will have negative impact on the educational system and the society.

“When I was in school nobody thought me as a student preparatory to becoming a teacher to speak in Hausa or Yoruba. I was thought in English language at NCE, B. Ed, masters degree so on and so forth. Here you are, today you wake up over night and said I should teach in mother tongue, does that really add up?”

He therefore promised to convened a meeting with stakeholders to discuss how possible the teachers could implement the policy.

He condemn the Four teaching days policy in Kaduna state because according to him children of the masses will missed one day every week of teaching while children of the affluent have extra lessons everyday of the week to attend.
