Women for women International in plateau state has advocated for the strengthening of protection mechanisms to prevent and eliminate violence against women.

The country director of the organization Bukola Onyishi represented by social empowerment manager in the organization Anthonia Olieh stated this at a media parly for Journalist in plateau state.

Bukola in her welcome address said, violence Like harrasment, threats, intimidation and discrimination against women needs to be given appt attention as it is becoming worrisome in the society.

She urged journalists frequently report issues of violence against women and it’s challenging social norms and behaviors that condone violence against women.

The advocacy coordinator in the organization Zainab Gbobaniyi in her presentation, lamented the lack of implementation of laws in the country to prosecute defaulters to serve as a detriment to others.

Responses from participants which where drawn from different media houses where all in the support that laws should be enacted, victims to speak out so as to get help from the proper authorities.

This year the organization had it’s theme: “UNITE! ACTIVISM TO END VIOLENCE AGAINST WOMEN AND GIRLS”.

Women for women International is a non-profit humanitarian organisation saddled with the responsibilities of providing skills knowledge amongst others to create a sustainable change for women, their families and communities. It’s a grassroots based organization and gender sensitive.
