The federal government has distributed relief materials to people affected by ravaging flood in various parts of kwara state.

Speaking at the distribution of relief materials in Ilorin,the Director General of the National Emergency Management Agency( NEMA), Alhaji Mustapha Ahmed said President Muhammadu Buhari has approved the release of twelve thousand metric tons of assorted grains as relief materials to victims of recent Nationwide flood disaster.

Represented by Deputy Director ICT Mallam Sanni Lokoja ,the Director General said the gesture was another milestone towards consolidating the mutual support and collaboration between NEMA and the Kwara state Government on disaster management and Humanitarian service delivery.

Alhaji Ahmed said the agency will continue to collaborate with the state government in conducting damage and loss assessments in guiding relief intervention to persons in need of support in the state.

He urged the state government to set up local Emergency Management Committees in all the local government areas of the State to take disaster risk management to the grassroot in line with global best practices.

The NEMA Director General noted that part of the grains delivered to the state included 2,100 bags of 50kg maize, 1,500 bags of sorghum, 3,600 of 25 Kg bags of Garri, among others.

In his remark shortly after receiving the items on behalf of the state government , Secretary to the Kwara State Government Professor Mamman Jibril Commended the Federal Government for its supports and various intervention to flood disaster victims across the country.

He maintained that the state government had provided relief materials including cash to the flood victims in Patigi, Edu and Ifelodun Local Government Areas of the state.END
