The Nigerian Meteorological Agency says dust plumes and haze from Niger and Chad are expected into the county within the next 24 hours in parts of states in the northern region signalling a possible commencement of the dry season.

A statement by the agency indicates that dust haze will intensify as the hours unfold in Maiduguri, Yobe, Katsina, Kano, Kaduna, Gombe, Bauchi and Jigawa States, while states in the North-central zones could experience sunny and hazy weather conditions with a visibility of 5–7 kilometers.

It is expected that this weather condition will persist for the next 3 days with a gradual increase in Day-Time Temperatures.

Following the season’s traditional traits of dust, night time cold,  high day-time temperatures, fog occurrences and health related risks such as meningitis, NiMet advises that  places where visibility is impaired, motorists should drive cautiously and adhere to recommended tyre pressure to prevent tyre burst.

It further advises Airline operators to get updated weather reports from NiMet as there were chances of clear air turbulence with increasing warmer temperatures and to prepare for flight delays and cancellations.
