Nigerian Army has appealed to the National Assembly to pass the Armed forces of Nigeria trust fund bill before the end of the 9th Assembly.

Chief of Army Staff, General Faruk Yahayya, made the plea while defending the 2023 budget proposal of the Nigerian army.

The Chief of Army Staff who emphasized the importance of the bill, maintained that if passed into law would greatly assist the Nigerian army to improve its funding.

He however, advocated the review of the current envelope in the nation’s budgetory system, which he said leads to inadequate funding of the Nigerian army.

Responding, the chairman house committee on army, Alh Abdulrazaq Namdaz, explained that personnel of the Nigerian army deserved be given priority to enable them confront the nation’s security challenges effectively.

Alh Abdulrazaq Namdaz confirmed that the committee is aware of the challenges confronting army, especially in the are of funding stressing efforts were on to improve the situation for better result.

He said as part of plans to support the Army about 600 billion naira is currently under consideration by the committee in the 2023 budget proposal of the Nigerian army and called for judicious application of the funds to achieve the set objectives.
