The federal government has reiterated it’s commitment in improving wheat production in all parts of the country with aimed at reducing high cost of importation of the commodity into the country.

The minister of Agriculture and Rural develop Alhaji Mohammad Sabo Nanono stated this during the opening ceremony of National wheat stakeholders workshop held in Kano.

The minister who was represented by the a director in the ministry Hajiya Karima Babangida said boosting the Agricultural sector was among the cardinal objectives of the administration of president Mohammad buhari aimed at diversifying the dependence on the oil sector.

Alhaji Mohammad Sabo Nanono noted government was investing massively in the wheat value chain geared towards reducing improtation,enhance food security,create job apportunities to the teaming youths and also to reducing poverty in the country.

He said the federal ministry of agriculture has mapped out strategies aimed at increasing wheat production,saying assorted seeds were made available to wheat farmers targeted towards achieving the set objectives.

The minister maintained that the ministry despite the unfortunately loot of assorted seeds to be distributed to farmers at Jos plateau state by the End SARS protesters , government would procure again assorted seeds which would be distributed to wheat farmers .

In a remark the deputy Governor of Kano state Dr Nasir yusif Gawuna who doubles as the commissioner for Agriculture Applauded the efforts of federal government in boosting Agriculture in the country.

He said the National stakeholders workshop came at the right time,so that minds would be rub together to fine-tune modalities of improving wheat production in Nigeria.

Earlier the National president of wheat farmers Association of Nigeria Salim Saleh Mohammad said wheat farmers were facing alot challenges,hence urgent steps needed to be implored,with the aim of addressing the challenges.

The workshop themed Transforming wheat production in Nigeria through increasing synergies and Adopting New Technologies attracted participants from many parts of the Nation.
