The President of the African Development Bank (AfDB), Akinwumi Adesina, says he can’t run for presidency because of his role at AfDB.

In a statement, Dr Akinwumi noted that his current responsibilities at the bank would not allow him to contest for the presidency.

According to him, he remained fully engaged and committed to the mission that Nigeria, Africa and all the non-African shareholders of the African Development Bank have given him for Africa’s development.

Dr Akinwumi, however, appreciated all the goodwill, kindness, and confidence from those urging him to contest the 2023 presidency.
