Security has been tightened in and around the Kaduna International Airport following Saturday’s attack on the facility by a group of people believed to be bandits.

The Airport is located in Igabi Local Government Area of Kaduna State.

Military vehicles and soldiers have been dispatched to the airport following the incident.

The Managing Director of NAMA, Matthew Pwajok, who confirmed the attack, said a guard was killed about a kilometre away from the navigational facilities and that the technical staff on duty fled for their lives when their colleague was shot.

“It’s true, bandits attacked our Navaids site which is a kilometre away from the runway, they killed the watchman while the technical staff ran back,: Mr Pwajok recounted.

“We alerted the military and they responded swiftly. The situation is now under control by the military; the few flights were able to take off afterwards.”
