The United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) says Nigeria has done well in terms of handling the influx of Refugees in the Country.

UNHCR Country Director in Nigeria, Chansa Kapaya gave the pass mark in Abuja at a two day retreat between the UN refugee Agency and the National Commission for Refugees, Migrants and Internally Displaced Persons.

Ms Kapaya said the UN recognised the good job Nigeria was doing in protecting persons of concern.

She, however, emphasised that both agencies must continue to dialogue on the protection mandate.

The National Commissioner, National Commission for Refugee Migrants and Internally Displaced Persons, Hajiya Imaan Suleiman-Ibrahim said the retreat was apt as it provided more opportunity for shared strategy between the two bodies.

“This retreat affords us room to discuss and calibrate on matters that will foster our partnership,” Hajiya Suleiman-Ibrahim stated.

“It also affords us an important rallying point for the provision of better protection services to our Persons of Concern (PoCs). The overall objective of this retreat is to provide an opportunity for discussions and shared understanding of the NCFRMI- UNHCR collaboration in terms of shared strategy, vision and collaboration on the protection mandate, operations, as well as broader partnerships and coordination.”

Hajiya Imaan reiterated the Federal Government’s Commitment towards providing durable solutions for Refuges and Internally Displaced Persons
