President Muhammadu Buhari has hosted a dinner for members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) aspiring to become the party’s National Chairman.

The outcome of the closed-door meeting was not disclosed, but our correspondent reported that it was to strengthen the reconciliation effort in order to persuade the aspirants to genuinely accept a consensus candidate,

The APC’s Caretaker and Extraordinary Convention Planning Committee Chairperson and Governor of Yobe State, Mai Mala Buni, the President’s Chief of Staff, Professor Ibrahim Gambari, and the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Mr Boss Mustapha, were also in attendance.

Prior to his latest meeting with the aspirants, President Buhari granted an audience to members of the Progressive Governors’ Forum, during which matters concerning the party’s national convention were discussed and adopted.

During a briefing with State House correspondents following the Governors’ meeting with the President, they declared their support for the President’s preferred candidate for national chairman.
