ActionAid Nigeria and Global Peace Development have organised a day annual women conference on preventing violent extremism in Kaduna State.

The conference is in line with this year’s International Women’s day with the theme gender equality today for stores for sustainable tomorrow, advancing gender equality in the time of climate crisis through women’s leadership.

It was funded by the Global Community Engagement and Resilience Fund and it is designed to address violence spilling across communities in Kaduna State.

The conference it also expected to create a workable community driven solutions and strengthen existing structures to address and prevent conflicts and general restiveness.

Representative of ActionAid Nigeria Mr. Eni Obi explained that women and girls especially those in conflict areas have been on the list of the vulnerable groups.

He further explained that the ActionAid Nigeria had identified women and youths to be trained for socio economic development of the state.

In his welcome address, the Executive Director of Global Peace Development Mr. Ebruke Esike said the conference is organised in honour of the world women’s day celebration and educating women is key to peace and development of the state and the nation.

According to him, if you educate a woman you educate the world.

In there separate remarks, the representative of FOMWAN Hajiya Hindatu Inuwa stressed the need for religious tolerance among communities while the representative of CAN women’s wing Bishop Esther Yawush said no nation would develop without tolerance and called for peaceful coexistence among people.

One thousand women participated at the conference and were drawn from the twelve communities of six local government areas of Kaduna State.

The local government areas are Chikun, Jema,a, Igabi, Kachia, Zaria.
