Federal Government has re-iterated commitment towards improving the living standards of Nigerians.

President Muhammadu Buhari made the pledge at the commissioning ceremony of first phase of housing projects under the National Housing Programme in Rigachikun, Kaduna State.

Represented by the Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development Dr Mahmood Abubakar, said economic policies and infrastructural drive of the present administration such as the National Housing Programme and others would have a positive impact on Nigerians.

He explained that the government had unleashed a value chain of economic activities that have improved the conditions of owners of Micro, Small and Medium-Sized Businesses.

The President pointed out that government remains committed to moving towards prosperity and away from poverty through reaching out to ordinary Nigerians by providing employment opportunities.

Muhammadu Buhari said maintenance contracts have been issued to small businesses in states where the houses were being completed to ensure the maintenance of those estates.

Earlier in a speech, Minister of Works and Housing, Mr Babatunde Fashola said the National Housing Programme was conceptualized through a survey conducted by the ministry to ascertain the type of houses that suits the interest of Nigerians.

Represented by Mr Emmanuel Hangeior, the Minister noted that the survey revealed a prevalent need for bungalows in the North and flats in Southern Nigeria.

Mr Babatunde Fashola added that government had offered the housing units to members of the public in a non-discriminatory way by opening a portal to ensure those interested were not inhibited by obstacles, stressing that allocations would be made on a first-come, first-served basis.

A total of eighty housing units comprising four units of one bedroom, forty-eight units of two bedroom, and twenty-eight units of three bedroom bungalows were commissioned.
