A bill for an Act to review qualification for political office holders in the country has passed second reading in the house of Representatives.

The decision followed the adoption of a motion sponsored by Mrs Adewumi Onanuga, during plenary presided over by the Deputy Speaker Alh Ahmad Idris Wase.

Leading a debate on the general principles of the bill, Mrs Adewumi Onanuga, said if passed into law the Act would force politicians to place more value on education while aspiring to some Offices.

The lawmaker stressed that the Bill was not introduced to stifle the interest of Nigerian politicians but rather strengthen the system for better results.

According to mover of the motion, political offices to be considered during the review exercise include, office of the state Governors, States Federal legislatures as well as as the office of the President.

Most of the lawmakers who contributed during a debate described the motion as timely, stressing that it would reflect the priority of the ninth Assembly placed on the quality of education that interests the nation’s youths and their desired political ambition.
