The Independent National Electoral Commission has reiterated commitment in enhancing the capacity of its personnel on modern techniques of enlightening the general populace on issues related to voter’s education.
The National Commissioner , Information and Voter Education INEC Mr Festus Okoye stated this during a capacity building training for Heads of Education and Publicity of the Commission from the 19 northern states and FCT held in Kano.
He said the objectives of the training was to acquaint personnel of the Commission with modern techniques of dissemination of information through the social media so that people will be updated on voter education geared towards sustaining the nation’s democracy.
“As spokespersons for the Commission, you must change with the changing technological and scientific developments in the world. Most of our young registrants and voters are on the social media. They understand and navigate the social media with ease. You must compete for their attention on social media. You must train and retrain yourselves on new ways and strategies of meeting changing demands in a dynamic electoral environment.”
Mr Festus Okoye explained that INEC had Concluded all necessary Arrangements to meet with the heads of security agencies with the aim of reviewing security situations in the country ahead of the 2023 elections.
“As we move closer to the 2023 general election, all the critical stakeholders and the security agencies must resolve to degrade and or neutralize the security threats across the federation. Our people must be assured that they can vote in a peaceful atmosphere”
Okoye urged the VEPs and POAs to embark on aggressive campaigns against multiple and double continuous voter registration exercise.
In his remarks, the Project Coordinator of ECES-Nigeria, Hamza Fassi-Fihri charged the INEC staff on the need to display commitment of high ethical standards and professionalism in the discharge of their duties.
Earlier, INEC Voter Education Director, Mr. Ayo Aluko said the workshop was part of the commission’s cardinal principle to ensure continous capacity building for it staff in order to keep them abreast of the task ahead during the 2023 general elections.
