The National Population Commission (NPC) has announced plans to conduct a National Census in May this year.

Chairman of the Commission, Mr Nasir Isa Kwarra stated this when he led other members of the Commission on a courtesy visit to Governor Nasiru el-Rufai at Government House Kaduna.

Mr Kwarra explained that, a total of 772 local governments had been successfully demarcated across the 36 States and FCT while the demarcation of the last 2 local governments would be completed in the next month.

He explained that the commission had completed 99% of the Enumeration Area Demarcation in Kaduna State with only Birnin Gwari Local Government Area remaining due to security challanges.

“What we presented to Mr President is that, we want to conduct the census in May”, Mr Kwarra said.

Mr Nasir Kwara also revealed that the population commission has concluded the first and second pre-test excercise which is part of preparatory activities for the next population and housing census.

Governor Nasiru el-Rufai called for the provision of more registration centre across the state, stressing that Kaduna State believed in the use of data in decision making.

Governor Nasiru el-Rufai added that the census would provide a good foundation that the State Bureau of Statistic can build upon for accurate survey in the future.
