Boat mishap in Zhigiri community of Shiroro local government council in Niger state has claimed the lives of seven persons.
The accident occoured when villagers were heading to Dinaweto a neighbouring village for a naming ceremony.
Before the construction of Zungeru Dam travelling between these two villages was done by land because the terrain was majorly dry and motorable.
Our Correspondent in Minna however reports that while bodies of six persons have been recovered one corpse is still missing.
Among the victims who loss their lives was Malam Muazu Babangida together with two of his wives and a child.
Spokesperson Coalition Of Shiroro Associations COSA Comrade Salis Sabo appealed to the Hydroelectric Power Producing Areas Development Commission HYPPADEC to as a matter of urgency provide them with water safety measures such as life jackets and other materials needed to safeguard lives and properties.
