The Chief Justice of Nigeria CJN, Justice Tanko Muhammad says the judiciary will no longer condone embarrassments and harassment of judicial officers by any individual, institution or agency of the government across the country.

He stated this during the special court session of the Supreme court to mark the commencement of the 2021/2022 legal year and swearing-in of newly conferred Senior Advocates of Nigeria (SANS) in Abuja.

The CJN expressed disappointment on the invasion of the official residence of Justice Mary Odili by men suspected to be security operatives who acted on a search warrant allegedly obtained from the Magistrate court in Abuja.

He said efforts were on to ensure that every search warrants are issued with the approval of a chief judge of the state or federal high court.

Justice Tanko Muhammed further congratulated the 72 newly conferred Senior Advocates of Nigeria and announced that consequently from next year, applications for the conferment of the prestigious rank would be done digitally to make the process seamless.

The Acting Solicitor General of the Federation, Mr Mohammed Umar who represented the AGF said more deserving members of the bar should be made SANs.

The Executive Secretary of the Human Rights Commission, Mr Tony Ojukwu, who was also one of the new SANs, expressed fulfilment that he had reached the peak of his career which would spur his commitment to citizens human rights.

On his part, the President of the Nigerian Bar Association, Chief Olumide Akpata advocated reforms of the judiciary.

Out of the 72 conferred SANs, 10 of them were academics while 62 were Advocates.
