Kaduna State Peace Commission, says it is in active participation in the ongoing global campaigns to end violence against women and Children.

The Chairman of the commission, Reverend Idewu Feron stated this at a news briefing in Kaduna.

Reverend Idewu Feron stressed the need for citizens to speak out and take appropriate action to end domestic and other forms of violence against the girl child and women.

He said the significant effort made by the commission has helped in de-escalating the driver of violence in all part of the state.

Reverend Idowu Fearon further revealed that, the Major Cities of Kaduna, Zaria and Kafanchan have not witnessed violent conflict throughout this year, stressing that, the previously conflict prone areas of Sanga, Kajuru, Igabi and Chikun had remained peaceful in this year.

He said despite the achievements, incidences of violence conflict have continued in Zangon Kataf, Kaura, Kauru, and Jemaa local governments.

According to him, efforts are currently ongoing to address the grievances driving the conflicts, praying that, success would be soon recorded in the local governments.

Reverend Idowu Fearon also disclosed that, the ongoing mediation effort in Fantsuam in Je’maa local government, Chawai in Kauru, Zangon Kataf and Afan Takad in Kaura local government are already recording tremendous success.

He appealed to the media to help in publicising the activities of the commission, so that the people could report threats to peace, security and harmonious coexistence.

He said currently efforts are ongoing to address the grievances driving the conflicts while initiatives to sustain peace and strengthen harmonious relations are being vigorously pursued.

The chairman thanked the commission’s partners for their support in strengthening social harmony and peaceful coexistence in the state.

He acknowledge the consistent efforts of the Kaduna State Government, under the leadership of Governor Nasiru El-Rufa’i towards peace building, working with diverse stakeholders at local, national and international levels.

Reverend Fearon also said, the commission in its pursuit for peace and social harmony, has engaged in dialogue, listening to all parties and groups, while responding to the concerns, worries and needs of citizens.

The chairman thanked the Government of Norway and the United Nations Development Programme for supporting the establishment of an ICT-based Conflict Early Warning and Early Response System (CEWERS).

He also appreciated security agencies for their numerous interventions which helped to restore peace and stability in the state.

The Chairman of Commission however urged people to work collectively to de-escalate conflicts and build consensus on the most effective ways of pursuing the course of a common destiny irrespective of differences.
