Federal Government has given assurance that problems associated with application and collection of International passports will soon be resolved.

Minister of Interior, Alhaji Rauf Aregbesola, who gave the assurance while fielding questions from newsmen said the government has issued about 3 million passports in 2 years.

He explained that the delay being experienced in the issuance of passports was prompted by the increasing rate of its demand, which has overstretched the process, as well as available structures and resources.

The Minister said new production and capture centres would be opened in the next few weeks to make Nigerians across the world obtain passport with ease.

Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola said this year alone, the Ministry approved a special deployment of over 600,000 passport booklets, which was the largest production, to cushion the effects of shortages being experienced.

On corruption, the Minister highlighted the recent sting operation carried out by the Acting Comptroller General of the Nigeria Immigration Service, Mallam Isa Jere, at the Ikoyi passport office to reduce corruption to the barest minimum.
