The National Association of Nigerian Nurses and Midwives kebbi branch, has called on the state government to employ more nurses to fill the gap on the shortage of manpower in health facilities in the state.
The State Chairman of the association, Comrade Kilani Abdulwaliyu, made the appeal in an interview with Radio Nigeria in Birnin Kebbi shortly after the occasion of sentfort to the retirees of the Nursing and Midwives profession in the state civil service.
Comrade Abdulwaliyu, said the association are also part of the state that are trying to see how to augment the shortage of manpower in health facilities.
He appreciated efforts of the state government for absorbing students nurses from school before graduation and after graduation.
According to him, their is need for more emphasis on how they can improve on manpower
“We can now see the challenge we are having, we have a good number of general hospitals in the state and the population keep up increasing and the health care challenges becoming demanding and as such we have to augment the existing system on what we have on ground”.
He advocated for in-service training and enough number of competent nurse specialists in the state.
The Chairman commended the state ministry of health in the department of nursing on the present system of releasing fifty nurses annually to go on different fields of specialization.
“We want to appreciate the contribution of our courageous nurses in the civil service whom have put on their thirty five years in service and retiring as well as appreciate their mentorship and their tireless and sacrifices put in place”.
He called on nurses to endeavour to make hospitals environment friendly and assured to boost the moral of the nurses in collaboration with the state government where necessary.
