The Independent National Electoral Commission has announced Professor Chukwuma Soludo of the All Progressive Grand Alliance, APGA, as the winner of Saturday’s Governorship Election in Anambra

This followed Tuesday’s supplementary election in Ihiala Local Government Area, where the election did not hold on Saturday

The collation and returning officer, Vice-Chancellor, University of Calabar, Professor Florence Obi, who made the announcement said Professor Soludo, got 112,229 votes.

The Peoples Democratic Party, PDP Candidate, Mr Valentine Ozigbo polled 53,807 votes, while the All Progressives Congress, APC Candidate, scored 43,285 votes.

Party agent for APGA, Senator Victor Umeh said the victory of his party was well deserved, while the APC Agent, Mr Chibuzor Obiakor, alleged that the election was filled with irregularities.

The APC Agent refused to sign the result sheet after the declaration.

Registered voters were 2,466,688, while accredited voters were 253,388.

Total votes cast stood at 249,631, with 241,523 valid votes and 8,108 votes were rejected.

18 candidates contested the governorship position in Saturdays election which was considered generally peaceful.

One local government was won by the PDP candidate, Valentine Ozigbo, while the candidate of the YPP, Ifeanyi Ubah, also won in one local government.

However, the collation officers for two local government areas, Ihiala and Orumba North said at the collation centre that elections did not hold in their local governments.
