Sultan Calls For Preservation Of Islamic Intellectual Manuscripts

Sultan of Sokoto Alhaji Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar has charged Islamic scholars and researchers in Africa to ensure preservation of Islamic manuscripts and other works of previous scholars.

He made the call at the opening of a three day International Scientific Symposium titled “the Islamic African Heritage, memory and history”.

It is Organised by the King Mohammad the sixth of Morocco foundation of African Oulama’s.

The sultan said the Sokoto caliphate alone had so many collections of intellectual manuscripts in different fields of knowledge that needed to be well preserved for the future.

Also speaking, FCT Minister Alhaji Muhammad Bello noted that the symposium which was being held for the first time outside Morocco, showed the position of Nigeria in scholarship and research documentation.

The President of the Mohammed the sixth foundation of African Oulama’a in Nigeria, Sheikh Sheriff Ibrahim Saleh El- Hussein urged participants to use the forum to engage in intellectual discuss on how to preserve and promote the Islamic manuscripts for the day to day activities of people in the continent.

The event was attended by traditional rulers, Islamic scholars as well as political leaders from Nigeria and other African countries.
